Set 8

Trevor Skaites

Trevor moved to Chor Village to get away from the hustle and bustle of Girfalo, but Chor isn't quite what he expected. Its beauty and proximity to Girfalo make it a prime vacation spot for city dwellers. To align himself with the locals rather than the tourists, Trevor has taken a job with the village work crew, keeping the roads clear and trash removed and attending no end of meetings. Though folks complain about the meetings, Trevor loves being in the thick of things and being a part of even the pettiest decision-making.

Merton Riggar

Though most assume that the Toriak Swamp is uninhabited, this isn't true. Though there are no large settlements, clusters of families live scattered throughout. Merton spends much of his time fishing and repairing nets, but it's counting that gives him the greatest satisfaction. In his Book of Numbers, passed down through generations, Merton records numbers of fish caught, of inhabitants in the outposts, of gorkies born each year, and of anything else that can be quantified and tracked.

Revix Maston

Revix works alongside his father on their small ship bringing goods back and forth across Zies Sea. Over the years they have developed a profitable route with customers waiting for them at multiple small ports. Revix loves checking in at each port, exchanging goods, news, and gossip. His favorite port is to the south where a romance has been blooming. He hasn't had the nerve yet to ask his beloved for her hand in marriage, but he thinks about it constantly as he sails back and forth.

Merta Fings

Merta lives in the Cordican mountains with just her sheep and sheepdogs to keep her company. Merta does things slowly, silently, and deliberately, whether it's tending to her flock or cooking supper. She uses the wool to make brightly colored yarn, which she then knits into sweaters and hats. She used to take her wares down into town to sell, but now that her knits have gotten some fame, she has a dealer, Urnol, who comes to her instead. Each time he comes, she prepares tea, which they share quietly by the fire.

Telon Offreren

Telon works in the offices of a Pintecho City merchant. He keeps the ledgers in order and minds his own business. His colleagues find him dull and don't include him in their antics. Telon isn't interested anyway. Telon is a devout follower of the Goddess of Tomorrow. Since childhood, he's prepared for Tomorrow and now has a small fortune tucked away in an altar box. He is waiting patiently for Tomorrow to come for him, and sometimes, on the beach in the evenings, he thinks he may have glimpsed her.

Deni Alfing

Deni works on her family farm in Brolia. Though she's done every possible type of farm work, her favorite job is running the business end of things. Now that she's married and her husband and two children have taken on shares of the farm work (alongside her parents, siblings, and their families) Deni is able to devote herself more fully to keeping the books, buying and selling. In quiet times, she and her husband head to the stream to fish and be still, watching the clouds float by.

Minnie Sybilina

Minnie believes herself to be a direct descendent of Dolinia's folk heroine, Sybil. Not only does Minnie's last name hint at such an ancestry, Minnie is unusually tall, pale, and blonde, all traits ascribed to Sybil. Minnie is very proud of this possible connection and mentions it at every opportunity, which annoys her community. Minnie never notices her neighbors' irritation, in fact she thinks they're jealous. While not popular with the locals, Minnie has made herself a celebrity with visitors who marvel at her stories.

Logan Tern

Logan works as a clockmaker in Silver City. Until recently, his daily routine was as predictable as the ticking of his clocks. With the death of his father though, everything has changed. His ailing mother and her nurse have come to live with him. His small house feels crowded now, and Logan has added an evening walk to his routine. On one of these walks he discovered a quiet tavern that serves hot, sweet beverages, and at this tavern he met a woman named Arla and his world is now forever changed.

Nonnie Pleck

Nonnie lives on the outskirts of Sun City where he raises peacocks and uses their feathers in his art. The peacock eggs sell better than the artwork but he is undeterred. Although he customarily avoids the temples, he recently learned about the All-Seeing God. The All-Seeing doesn't have much of a presence in Sun City, but Nonnie learned about the God from a devotee who praised Nonnie's art and proclaimed the eye-like pattern of the feathers made the pieces perfect talismans for fellow followers.

Star-Ann Driminiski

Star-Ann loves two things: tales of intrigue and writing in code. She likes to watch for smugglers at the busy Ovello port where her father works. While she waits, she develops secret codes. Her favorite codes are pure numbers. She hides notes written in code on ships leaving the port and dreams of someone finding one, decoding it, and writing back. So far, this hasn't happened. Her parents dislike her hobby and have sent her to work as a seamstress, but even as she sews she dreams up new codes.
