Despite teasing from friends and derision from her siblings, Gwynn has been training to bicycle down the coast to Belltower Bay and then on to each of the cities of Gie Coast. To stay motivated she pins postcards to her wall of all the places she will see on her trip some day.
Oliver Sweetar
Meet Oliver Sweetar of the Cratic Desert. Oliver is an electrician. Along with the future mayor, plumbers, and construction workers, he is building a brand-new city: Cerapion City. The new city will be a marvel of new technology amidst the vast desert sands. Oliver is a single dad with a young son who wants to grow up to be just like his dad. (NP)
Alvis
Meet Alvis of Girfalo. Alvis is a dreamer who sees visions in the clouds. He spends his days sailing in the sea of Omphar and at night he retires to his humble bungalow, alone, and tired, but at peace.
Tanshia
Meet Tanshia of Saplo Pont. Tanshia is a fashion photographer but she dreams of being a famous model. She always gets jealous of the people she photographs. She acts friendly but deep down she knows how she really feels. (NP)
Vispera
Meet Vispera of Kaycon Town. Vispera planned to move in with her beloved aunt in Overgrowth River, but then, during an evening walk on the beach, she saw a mermaid with eyes as dark as the ocean and scales of shimmery violet. Vispera yearns to see the mermaid again and is now not sure if she still wants to leave. (NP)
Willa
Meet Willa of Belltower Bay. Willa has a secret. Willa can talk to birds. Not any birds, specifically the Gwakies that live along the Chormalk Cliffs. Gwakies are more communicative than ordinary birds, but still, no one ever believes her, and honestly the Gwakies rarely have anything interesting to say. Still, Willa prefers their company to most anyone else.
Elora
Meet Ellora of Esquinelle. Most days Ellora can be found in the market square selling flowers grown by her cousins. She is known to be honest and is sought out for the best blooms in town. Once a week, she makes her way down the river to a noisy fast-flowing tributary. There, she sings. She sings all kinds of songs, some invented on the spot. She sings with her whole heart. She believes this is her secret and that no one has heard her, but she is wrong.
Bevie
Meet Bevie from Jia City. Bevie lives on the bank of the Great Terio River. She spends her time writing novels at her desk overlooking the water dotted with boats. Her novels are full of romance and adventure and they almost always start with the heroine boarding a boat and heading into the unknown, though Bevie herself has never done so.
Xilomari
Meet Xilomari. Xilomari is a wanderer, At a young age she left her birth city in the Terio Hills and headed south across the Revitsar Mountains. Xilomair has a habit of collecting a loyal group of traveling companions anywhere she goes. Together they are a merry bunch exploring the world.
Starla
Meet Starla of Inalas. Starla is a poet. On sunny days she does to the market at Cranefish Town and hands out poems to passersby. Her poetry is tall and majestic like mountains and deep and mysterious like the ocean. After each market day she treats herself to a single bead from the exasperated jewler's stand.
Mangolia
Meet Mangolia of the Iranca Plateau. Mangolia is a very social person. She loves going out with her friends more than anything. Her life seems perfect but she always wants more. Perfect isn't enough for her. Perhaps she needs a loved one, a pet, art, or maybe she needs to move away from what she knows. (NP)
Diane
Meet Diane of Komoko City. Diane lives in a large house with her husband and three kids. Diane is a kindergarten teacher. She loves her students and thinks about them a lot. In the evening she likes to relax with her cat, Sir Snugglekis. She has great faith in her students and believes they will have bright futures. (NP)
Hattie
Meet Hattie of the Masconian Empire. Hattie is a guard at the emperor's palace. At first, she was unsure if this was the right path for her. She had rebelled against taking on the role that her family has held for generations. But her first day on the job, when she donned the sleek blue uniform, she was filled with pride for the place in the land that she loves.
Torblin
Meet Torblin of the Masconian Empire. Torblin is famous across the empire for his baking. He has two kids and a helpful wife. His life seems perfect, but he has a secret. Torblin wants to be a DJ, but his family is so supportive of his baking, and he is so popular, that he worries everyone would be mad if he quit. Besides, he's a terrible DJ. (NP)
Anstarnia
Meet Anstarnia of the Overgrowth. Anstarnia is the oldest of five. Her four sisters live with her in her small cottage and garden that resides in Vinto Village. In her free time, she knits clothing in her garden. The clothes are for her young siblings. If is her responsibility to take care of them but sometimes it is too much. (NP)
Mary
Meet Mary of the Overgrowth. Mary lives with her husband in a tiny cottage, not far from her chaotic best friends, Anstarnia, who always makes her laugh. Mary's husband is restless though and wants to move to the Cratic Desert where Cerapion City is being built. (NP)
Londra
Meet Londra of Akorin Mountain. Londra rarely has visitors and never leaves her mountain slope. She likes to take long walks, stopping to collect bits of stone or other fragments. She uses these items to assemble complex patterns on the walls of her home. The views of the valley from her porch are breathtaking.
Claudia
Meet Claudia of Swelkar Valley. Claudia lives on a farm. She loves her animals and garden. It's the only life she's ever known. She has a donkey named Mavi and a goat named Zep. She is content but in the quiet hours of the evening she wonders, could there be something else out there for her? (NP)
Quillan
Meet Quillan of the Walkia Bluffs region. Quillan knows things that others don't. She sees things that others miss. She used to share her insights freely, but too many times she came to regret the outcomes and now keeps to herself.
Finora
Meet Finora of Sun City in the Xilocent Mountains. Finora doesn't know it but she is the heart of Sun City. Her exuberant care for her neighbors has kept many from despair in this isolated community. Although the Xilocent Mountains are breathtakingly beautiful, visitors are rare. The townspeople must rely on one another, and many rely on Finora for her warmth and welcome.
