The Hills

The Hills region is made up of three distinct provinces: Terio, Harid, and Esquina. Though their borders are porous, their phyiscal and cultural geographies are unique.

Esquina

Esquina consists of three thriving riverside trading towns: Esquinelle, Marer, and Totoee Town that are governed by the Esquina Trading Commission. Their rich lands are farmed for profitable trading goods. The Esquina Trading Commission has invested in the development, upkeep and defense of their cities and boasts thriving marketplaces, top of the line architecture and elaborate social meeting houses.

Timothy and Travick

Timothy is a violinist in Esquina. He makes his home in Maror, but travels through the Hills as gigs dictate. He prefers playing at the salons in the grand old homes of Maror. Timothy found Travick the racoon on the riverbank in Lomark City after playing serenades for couples boating by, and named him after his favorite composer. Travick comes to all of Timothy's performances, and can often be found sleeping in Timothy's violin case.

Elbertine Misk

Elbertine of Maror, in the Esquina Hills, has just opened up a cafe. After many years of planning, dreaming, saving and waiting, Cafe Misk is a reality. The cafe specializes in delicate pastries with rotating daily flavors. It is always decorated with fresh cut flowers and is situated perfectly to catch the breeze. Already the cafe has become the talk of the town. Elbertine is very pleased and finds great joy in both the daily work and the success of their creation.

Elora

Meet Ellora of Esquinelle. Most days Ellora can be found in the market square selling flowers grown by her cousins. She is known to be honest and is sought out for the best blooms in town. Once a week, she makes her way down the river to a noisy fast-flowing tributary. There, she sings. She sings all kinds of songs, some invented on the spot. She sings with her whole heart. She believes this is her secret and that no one has heard her, but she is wrong.

Harid Hills

The people of the Harid Hills like to keep their feet firmly on the ground. Theirs is a quiet community compared to the bustle of their neighbors in Terio and Gie Coast. Though Haridians have often feared being swallowed up by the Gie Coast, their lack of valuable land, poor road systems, and inaccessible coastline have kept them from being of much interest to their neighbors.

Captain Sincrae's Home

Captain Sincrae built this home in the Harid Hills after retiring from life at sea. He had never much liked being on a ship, but he was a devoted builder, expanding his home each year until he died. Slowly, a town grew up around him, and the town was called Sincrae Town in his honor. Captain Sincrae’s home is now at the town’s center and has been converted into much sought-after apartments.
